What we hold about you
Only what Bantaba needs in order to work. There is no advertising here, so there is nothing collected in order to sell it to anybody.
Who you are
Your name and your phone number. An email address only if you chose to give one.
What you do here
Your contributions, orders, listings, sales and the messages you send through the site, with the dates they happened.
Identity documents
An identity document or passport and a business registration, and only where a Business Rotating susu required them. No other product asks for any document.
Photographs
Pictures you upload of a product, a shop or a place to rent.
Payment details
The Wave number you register for payouts, and a bank name and account number where you ask to be paid that way.
Technical bits
The sign-in session your browser holds, and ordinary server logs recording that a page was requested.
We do not ask for your date of birth, your address, your family or anything else a form somewhere else might have taught you to expect. If a field is not on a screen, we are not holding it.
Why we hold it
Your name and phone number are how you log in and how somebody reaches you about an order, a listing or a susu. Without them there is no account.
What you do on Bantaba is held because it is the record. A susu balance is worked out from the dated lines of your own contributions, so the lines have to exist for the balance to mean anything. That is the whole point of replacing the notebook.
Identity documents exist because a Business Rotating susu pays a member a large sum before they have finished paying in, and the people putting money in are entitled to know who is being paid. That is why no other product asks for one.
Photographs exist so a shopper can see a product and a renter can see a room. Payment details exist so money can reach you.
Who can see it
Not everybody with an account, and not other members of your susu. Here is the whole list.
You
Everything held about you, at any hour, from your own dashboard.
Your susu's organiser
Your contributions, what you have missed and what you are owed in the susus they run, because they cannot tell you where you stand otherwise. Not what you buy, not what you sell, not another organiser's susu.
An administrator
What they need in order to approve the thing in front of them: a shop being reviewed, a listing going up, a withdrawal being paid, a dispute being settled. Not a shop's costs, margins, suppliers or customer list.
A seller you buy from
Your name and the delivery details of the order you placed with them, and nothing about any other order or any other part of your account.
Nobody else
No other member, no other shop, no advertiser. Your data is not sold and it is not shared for marketing.
Where the law requires it, or where a court or a regulator properly asks, we may have to hand something over. We would rather say that here than leave you to discover it.
Photographs and documents
Your phone writes where you were into every photograph
Most phones record the exact spot a picture was taken inside the image file itself. Every photograph uploaded to Bantaba is scaled and re-encoded on the way in, which throws that information away along with everything else the camera wrote. What is stored is the picture and nothing else, under a name that gives nothing away either.
Identity documents are treated differently from every other file on the site. They are not public, they are not served from a guessable address, and they are handed only to the people entitled to review them: the organiser of the susu that required the document, or an administrator handling that review.
A photograph you put on a product or a rent listing is, by definition, visible to anybody who visits that page. Think about what is in the frame behind the thing you are photographing.
How long we keep it
Your account and what is in it are kept for as long as you have an account. Ask us to delete it and we delete it.
Two things survive that, and both for the same reason. Records of money that actually moved are kept for as long as the law requires a business to keep them. And a susu that other people are still saving in keeps the record of what you contributed to it, because deleting your lines would change the arithmetic for everybody else in the group. Your name comes out of it, the figures stay.
Identity documents are deleted once the susu that required them has finished and the review they were for is closed. Photographs go when the listing or the product they belong to goes. A message sent through the contact form is kept only as long as it takes to answer it properly.
What you can ask us for
Three things, and you do not have to give a reason for any of them. Write to us from the account in question, or with the phone number on it, so we know it is you asking.
A copy
Everything held about you, in a form you can read and keep.
A correction
Anything wrong put right. A name spelled wrong, a number that changed.
Deletion
Your account and your data removed, except for the two things above that have to stay.
What the app stores on your phone
Bantaba can be added to your home screen, and when it is, a small piece of the site is kept on your phone so it opens quickly and does not stare at you blankly on a bad connection.
What is kept is the shell only: the layout, the fonts, the icons, the parts of the page that are the same for everybody. No balance, no contribution, no order and no document is ever written to that cache. Anything that is yours is fetched fresh from the server each time, which is why a balance needs a connection to show at all.
Clearing your browser data clears it. Nothing is left behind on a phone you sign out of.
Changes to this notice
Bantaba is young and it is still being built, so this notice will change. When it does, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and anything that materially alters what is held about you or who can see it will be told to you rather than quietly edited in.
The binding version of your relationship with Bantaba is in the terms and conditions, which are published with a version number and which you are asked to accept before a new version applies to you.
A question about any of this
Write to us and a person will answer. If it turns out the answer should have been on this page, it will be on this page afterwards.
